Membership

Membership is free and is open to HPC professionals working in either an academic HPC or industrial HPC environment. We are particularly keen to encourage the following professionals to join our network:

  • Europe based HPC software applications and tools developers
  • Europe based HPC hardware manufacturers and vendors

A number of mechanisms will be set up to allow interested parties to engage including:

PlanetHPC Expert Group

The PlanetHPC Expert Group will be created consisting of 8-10 experts. The experts will be selected and invited to join the group by EPCC. The experts will be leaders in their field and will be chosen to represent a diverse range of disciplines. A chairperson will be selected by the group. It is expected that several of the members of the expert group will be from partner organisations involved in FP7 ICT projects.

Special Interest Groups (SIGs)

A number of Special Interest Groups (SIGs) will be created. SIGs will focus on a particular topic of interest and identify the research challenges in that area. By sharing their findings across the network, they aim to have both breadth and depth to their analysis. The topics for discussion have yet to be agreed with members, however, it is envisaged that they could be in the following areas: new programming languages, hpc algorithms, multicore and other processors, accelerators.

Summary of benefits of membership include:

  • Regular electronic and printed newsletters;
  • Access to restricted parts of the project website i.e. Special Interest Groups, and internal reports and papers;
  • Exclusive invitations to project organised events;
  • The opportunity to contribute to the roadmap for future HPC funding which will be delivered to the EC in 2011.
